The charge for a penalty fare notice issued during an inspection is £120 and must be paid within 21 days. If you pay within 14 days of the date you received the penalty fare, a 50% discount is applied, and you should pay £60.

If you don’t pay your penalty fare notice within the required timescales, enforcement action may be taken to recover the balance.

Please wait 24 hours after receiving the notice before paying the penalty fare. If you are considering appealing the penalty, no payment should be made until the outcome of the appeal is received.

Appealing a penalty fare notice

If you don't think you should pay, you may appeal within 21 days of receiving a penalty fare notice but we only accept appeals in exceptional circumstances. You can find a guide to appealing a penalty fare below.

If, after reading the above, you still do not think you should pay or feel you have been unfairly issued a penalty fare, you can complete a penalty fare appeal form.

If you submit the appeal within 14 days of receiving the notice and you are unsuccessful, you can pay the reduced charge of £60. If you submit your appeal after 14 days and are unsuccessful, you will need to pay the full £120 penalty fare.

We aim to reply, with our decision on your appeal, within 14 days.
