Rail improvement works and disruptions

Throughout 2025, planned improvement work and disruptions will take place across the rail network.

These works will affect various different lines, and will be summarised below.

Railway upgrades in Salford

Throughout 2025, planned improvement works will take place in 2025 at Salford Central and Salford Crescent rail stations.

Network Rail will carry out the works, which will provide an additional platform at Salford Crescent station, and upgrades at Salford Central.

During the works, there will be closures to both Salford Central and Salford Crescent stations.

Greek Street bridge replacement

From 1 March 2025, the Greek Street roundabout and part of the nearby roads will close for about a year as the main work begins.

Over Easter 2025, Network Rail will be carrying out work to the railway to prepare for the major work. There will be changes to train services during the Easter bank holiday.

In August 2025, Network Rail will close the railway in Stockport for 21 days. During this time, they will remove the old bridge and install the new one.
