Fares and passes for young people
From young children to teenagers and care leavers, there’s a range of bus and tram tickets and passes available for young people travelling in Greater Manchester.
We’re keeping fares for young people low on the Bee Network and on TfGM-funded school bus services.

Child fares on buses
In Greater Manchester:
- Children under 5 years old travel for free on buses.
- Children aged 5-11 can pay child fares on buses.
- If you are aged 11-16, you must have an igo card to travel using a child ticket on buses in Greater Manchester.
Fares on TfGM-funded school buses
Some dedicated school-only buses run in Greater Manchester, with the following fares:
- Child single ticket: £1
- Child return ticket: £2
- TfGM school weekly ticket: £7.60. This ticket is ONLY valid on schooldays on school buses. It’s available to buy on the bus or at an Information and Ticket Office. The bus driver will load it onto the igo card*.
- Carnet ticket: (10 single trips) £10. This ticket is ONLY valid on schooldays on school buses. It’s available to buy on the bus** and at an Information and Ticket Office. It can only be loaded onto an igo card and will be valid for 28 days from the date of purchase.
Students over the age of 16 (without a Scholar’s Permit or Our Pass) pay £2 for a single or £4 a return.
Students with a Scholar’s permit: Can also pay £1 for a single ticket or £2 for a return (but not the school weekly ticket).
Children aged between 11-16: Who do not have an igo pass will be charged the single or return fare but will not be able to buy a weekly ticket without an igo.
TfGM return, weekly and carnet ticket school exceptions: These tickets are valid on the majority of dedicated school buses, with some exceptions. There are also bus services to schools, not included on the list of TfGM school buses, where no TfGM school tickets are available. Please check the exceptions list before travelling.

Child fares on trams
In Greater Manchester:
- Children under 5 years old travel for free on trams.
- Children aged 5-11 can pay child fares on trams.
- If you are aged 11-16, you must have an igo card or proof of age to travel using a child ticket on trams in Greater Manchester.

Child fares on bus and trams for 5 to 16 year olds.
Free school pass
Free travel to school for longer journeys.
Scholar’s permit (16-19 year olds)
Child fares for 16-19 year olds travelling to school or college.
Our Pass (16-18 year olds)
Free local bus travel and off-peak 1-day and weekend Metrolink travelcards at half adult prices, for 16-18 year olds.
Care Leavers travel offer (18-21 year olds)
Free local bus travel for 18-21 year olds who are classed as a care leaver.
